In the deep darkness of a northern winter, we gather around the fire.
This January, Witch Camp returns to Camp Amnicon for a winter immersion into the cosmology, magic, divination, and earth-based traditions of the Norse world.
For many of us, the search for meaningful spiritual practice has taken us far from the traditions of our own ancestors. Yet beneath Christianity and modernity lie older ways of understanding the world: traditions rooted in land and season, fire and water, plants and animals, ancestors and spirits, story and symbol.
This weekend is an invitation to turn toward those older ways.
Together, Hilary and Anna will guide participants into the rich cosmology of the Norse tradition: the Nine Worlds and World Tree, gods and goddesses, ancestors, the runes, seiðr, land spirits, fate, magic, and the animistic worldview woven throughout the old stories.
Using Evelyn C. Rysdyk’s The Norse Shaman as one of our guides, we will explore her reconstruction of Northern European shamanic practice alongside what historical and mythological sources tell us about seiðr, the völva, and Norse magical traditions. We’ll consider both what is known and what has been lost, and what it means to approach an ancestral spiritual tradition when no unbroken instruction manual remains.
Our hope is not to leave Witch Camp having simply learned about Norse magic.
Our hope is to remember something.
Something about winter.
Something about ancestry.
Something about belonging to the land.
Something about gathering around a fire in the darkness and making meaning together.
We look forward to circling with you.
Camp Amnicon:
The lodge at Camp Amnicon has a beautiful central fireplace with seating area, small kitchen area, sauna, access to coffee and tea all day, indoor bathrooms and showers, and two bunk rooms. There are a myriad of hiking trails and access to Lake Superior and the Amnicon River—an incredible retreat destination in the heart of the South Shore wilderness.
*Private cabins may be available. Please contact Camp Amnicon directly to check availability.
This retreat is an opportunity to tend your body, mind, heart and soul this winter, and will include morning yoga, free time for rest and reflection, and workshops with Indwelling Guides. We will also have massage therapists on site and readings with Orin Speaks.
The retreat cost includes breakfast, which is provided by Indwelling. For dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, please bring a potluck item. This is a beautiful way to care for each other with nourishing food and also keeps the retreat cost at a reasonable price.
*This retreat will be offered to women, women identifying individuals, and non-binary people who are comfortable in a space that centers the experience of women.
To Register: SOLD OUT—email hello@indwellingduluth to be added to the waiting list.
Retreat Refund and Cancellation Policy:
There will be no refunds offered for this retreat and the retreat cost is non-transferrable. If you are unable to attend for any reason, we ask that you offer your spot to someone else, perhaps a friend, family member, or someone on the waiting list.
